In Reception we follow the Read, Write, Inc phonics programme. The children will begin by learning individual letter sounds. Children will be bringing home the letters that they have learnt along with their formation rhyme to practice at home. In order to help with reading we will be practicing oral blending with the children during daily routine eg put on your h-a-t or stand u-p, which you could also do as often as possible at home.

Please share reading books regularly with your children at home. The children will be invited to change their reading books in school on Monday and Thursday. We also have a reading trolley in the cloakroom which contains a selection of books. We invite you to come in with your child and choose a book together at any time should they need changing before the following Monday or Thursday.

Please talk to your child about the characters in the story, where the story is set and discuss with them what they have enjoyed about the book.

In maths, we are focussing on counting with correspondence, number and shape recognition using the Ten Town programme and Big Maths. Throughout the year, your child will bring home a range of practical activities which provides the opportunity for them to consolidate their learning with you at home.

Book bags are checked daily for returned homework and the children will continue to be rewarded for completing set tasks. For any further information please speak to any member of the Reception staff who will be able to help you.
