Y4 enjoyed a trip to Stewart Park to enhance their learning about Native America. We had a fantastic time exploring the museum and looking at Native American artefacts. We were able to find out more information on the explorer who found Australia, Christopher Columbus as he was from near Middlesbrough. We learnt more about his life and how he travelled around the world on his expeditions. During the workshop, we created our own totem poles which were carved from Plaster Paris. We researched all the different patterns that we could use and incorporated these into our designs. After that, we went on a journey stick adventure around the park and created 'Journey sticks' using items that we found along the way, this included things like leaves and twigs and some even found feathers to attach to their sticks. When we returned to school, we were then able to recount what had happened on our journey using our very own sticks, it was super exciting.
